With the transfer window open it was important that we tried to strengthen but with our perilous financial situation we needed to ensure that we played it clever.
The main Signing was young Forward Maxence Verhelst from Rochdale. £1.6 Million up front with the deal possibly reaching £2.1 Million.
Two defensive loan signings from Liverpool were also snapped up.
Rhys Williams in at centre back and Adam Wood is a young wingback for extra cover.
We also decided to cash in on Daryl Horgan after some interest was shown by Bristol Rovers. An offer of £650k was accepted.
Sadly we also lost one of our best players in Fred Onyedinma. A constant selection on the right wing since joining the club Stoke showed interest and the players head was turned. A transfer of £925k was accepted.
Our poor form from before Christmas continued through January with only 1 win in 6 games.
Defeats to Bristol City and Barnsley 2-1 and 1-0 respectively were followed by a humbling 4-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough.
Our one win of the month came on the south coast as we beat 10 man Bournemouth 1-0.
Two more defeats followed as we lost to Reading 3-1 and Stoke 2-0. New signing Verhelst got his first goal for the club against Reading which was a glimmer of hope in a pretty poor month.
The solitary 3 points left us with 44 points from 30 games and sitting in 11th place in the league.
Here's hoping for a better February.
Cheers
